WILD CARD - Trailbreaker Marathon

Today, I ran the Trailbreaker Marathon in Waukesha with my good friends Andrew and Greg.  It was a lot of fun because we stuck together the entire time and treated it like any of the countless long training runs we've done together over the past couple of years.

The majority of the race was on the Glacial Drumlin bike trail and 6 miles in the middle were extremely rugged and included a giant staircase and tower to climb.

Here's an idea of what the long, steep staircase leading to the tower felt like.

Here's the Lapham Peak Tower - the highest point in Waukesha County.  The course was an out and back.  The turn around point was at the top of the tower (you even get to ring the halfway bell).

Here I am ringing the halfway bell (VERY exciting stuff!).

Three guys at the top of the tower... only 13.1 miles to go.

A rugged section of the course.  We lucked out that it wasn't too muddy.

Standing on the finish line.  This was a very small race (under 150 runners) so it was UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME to get to run with such good friends to pass the time.  We finished in 4:46.  I'll take that time in any race that involves a 438 foot elevation change in a 3 mile span!

My beautiful supporting family was waiting for me at the finish.  Seriously, how adorable is my family?

Hey Matt,

I ran the Trailbreaker yesterday as well. I remember your group of guys because of the shirts you all have on. Seems we do a lot of the same marathons. I also did Icebreaker and Indianapolis Monumental last year. And Rails to Trails and Madison, among others.

Love your pictures from the race. I have never brought a camera along but maybe some day. Your video of the steps up to the tower really show how steep and high it goes.

Congrats on another marathon finish!

Congrats to you too! I definitely recognize you. Great blog - I enjoyed the write up about the Trailbreaker. I'm sure we'll cross paths again!
