Well, it's official Matt has exactly one year left as a twenty-something. Lilly and I had a busy day making sure that Matt's 29th birthday was extra special. Matt started out the day with a 7 mile run which he finished in less than 55 minutes - that's pretty good for an old guy! After he left for work Lilly and I got to work on baking his cake, chocolate of course. Lilly loved helping. She added the ingredients for me and even helped with the clean-up as you can see.
By the time Matt got home from work we were more than ready to have his birthday party. We started by opening presents. Matt loved all his gifts. Lilly and I got him a new water bottle for his bike as well as 2 new Cubs shirts. Matt's mother sent him some spending money and Mom and Dad Shaw sent an REI gift card (Matt's favorite store) that is already burning a hole in his pocket.
For Matt's birthday meal I made Monte Cristo Sandwiches, one of Matt's favorites, for the first time. They turned out to be delicious and a new family favorite. Finally, we finished off our meal with the chocolate cake that Lilly and I had made earlier. It turned out perfect, most likely because of all the love that Lilly and I put into it.
The last part of Matt's birthday was probably the part he was looking forward to the most. The Cubs game. It was the most crowded game I have ever been to at Miller Park which is understandable since both the Cubs and the Brewers are having amazings season so far. It was standing room only with an amazing 44,871 fans in attendance - with probably over half being Cubs fans. And the perfect end to Matt's birthday was the Cubs pulling out yet another win against the Brewers.
