This weekend, I ran my 6th marathon. Eric and I drove down to Eastern Tennessee to run in the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon. Without a doubt, this was the toughest race I've done. (Keep in mind, just 3 months ago, I did a trail marathon in a blizzard!) The picture above is to give some idea of the hills that killed me during the race. I don't know what was worse - the long gradual runs uphill or the very steep dangerous runs downhill. It was really rough. The worst part of the whole race was at the halfway point when the half-marathoners turned toward their finish line and I still had 13 miles to run. It seemed like at that exact second, the temperature dropped 15 degrees (guessing in the high 30's) and the wind picked up so much that even if you were running downhill into the wind it was hard to put one foot in front of the other. The wind was really a killer when running across the giant bridges - Knoxville's right on the Tennessee River. I was longing for the Indoor marathon a lot during this run!

94. WILD CARD - 6th Marathon!
The race was very well organized and the fans and volunteers were great. It was rewarding to finish on the football field at University of Tennessee - they put you on the jumbotron and say your name over the PA system!
Here I am the day before the race at the sight of the 1982 World's Fair.
At the finish in Neyland Stadium - Still windy!
Also, since this was my 6th marathon in 6 months, I qualified for my silver star in the Marathon Maniacs club. What's stupider than that?

The hills and the wind are just as described. It was brutal! Silver level in the Marathon Maniacs, no one can truly appreciate it until they run just one marathon. Way to go Matt!
Wow, Matt! I keep repeating the same phrase, but it's true: I'm very proud of you and your accomplishments. You certainly have higher goals than the average person! I love you!
