I'm not sure how this came about, but last week, I went on a 90-something mile, 4 day canoe trip with my brother, Eric. I don't know what I expected but knowing what I know now, I'm not sure I'll sign up to do another one in the near future. Nobody capsized but paddling 25 miles a day is a lot of work!
Here, Eric and I are dragging the canoes up the shore so we can set up camp for the night.
This was the only dam we got to bypass by going through a lock - at every other dam, we had to portage. Portage is just a romantic term for carrying your canoe, your gear, and your crazy-heavy multiple gallons of drinking water over bridges, down stairs, across busy roads, etc..."

Going up Tyler Creek in Elgin at Judson College.
This is what someone who's ready to be done canoeing looks like.
One of the last dams we portaged. The best part about this trip was getting to spend so much time with Eric. He's wanted to do this trip for a long time and I figured I owe him since I've dragged him on so many long marathon race weekends with me. I'm not ruling out doing it again - it just might be a LONG time from now!
