Swimming Update...



  I have 2 swimming goals that I'm working towards... Swim 1/2 mile and Do a triathlon.  For the last couple of weeks, I've been hitting the pool at the YMCA.  I'm happy with how the training's going so far - especially because I have a really bad shoulder.  One thing that I wasn't really prepared for was the boredom.  At least when I'm running or biking, I can listen to my ipod and the scenery is constantly changing.  When I'm in the pool, there's nothing to look at and I'm over-self conscious that the lifeguards are judging my swim stroke.  Anyways, I made it up to 1/4 mile today so I'm halfway to the 1/2 mile.  It was a tough swim but I can definitely see me doubling that in the next few months.



Some Swimming Facts:

- An hour of swimming will burn up to 650 calories - more calories than walking, biking or Guitar Hero.

- Strengthens the heart and lungs.

- The smell of chlorine lingers on your skin long after the shower.

- Helps reduce stress

- Works all of the body's major muscles

- A great low-impact exercise.

- A great cardio exercise - working against the water's resistance is over 10x that of air.
