72. Paint a painting

I finished my painting this week.  I've never taken an art class but I found out a few years ago that I really enjoy painting.  This was the second oil painting I've done and I'm happy with how it turned out.  I know this wasn't the manliest choice, but it's what Gretchen requested.  Here's the inspiration.  The photo above makes it look a lot darker than the painting really is... It's hard to take a good picture when the oil's still very wet.  Come over and see it in person to get the real effect.

Here's an easel I built in, literally, 10 minutes.  It served me well.

Nothing like a giant blank canvas.

Background done and outline of the petals.

I did 95% of this project with the pallet knife.  I forgot how much fun it is to work with oil.

A vibrant green stem.   (This photo should also give you a better idea of the brightness of the colors).  (I wasn't sure if the period went inside the parentheses or outside the parentheses in the last sentence - I'll put it inside the parentheses on this one just to be safe.)

The finished product.  It took a couple of weeks but I'm so glad I did it.  My only regret is that Gretchen now wants to re-paint the bedroom to match the painting better... Umm, not likely.

Now to start cleaning up...

If this was on facebook, I'd click "like" :) Good job, Matt!! I'm sure it would even look better if you repainted the walls too (just trying to help you, Gretch). :)

Great Job Matt! I showed my class and they were very impressed. They said you should go into art for a profession.
