Wild Card - Icebreaker Indoor Marathon #2

This is my 2nd year in a row doing the Icebreaker Indoor Marathon at the Pettit National Ice Center.  This year, I was so happy to have my brother, Eric run it too.  Neither of us were feeling great from the start... Eric was pretty sick and I never really recovered from my race in Jackson, Mississippi 2 weeks ago.  I knew it wasn't a good sign that my legs felt heavy at mile 6 but at least I wasn't trying to keep from throwing up like Eric!

Gretchen and the kids came to see my last 5 miles.  I really enjoyed that.  At most marathons, I'm a long way from home and there's nobody waiting for me at the finish line.  This was extra-special to have the people I love most, cheering me on and hugging me at the finish.

Gretchen and the kids were waiting with high-fives and signs each time I passed.

Just like last year, Lilly ran the last little bit and crossed the finish line with her super-proud daddy.

I finished the 96 laps in 4 hours and 31 minutes.  If you didn't see it before, here's the link to me filming one lap around the Pettit a few weeks ago.  I was so happy to finish and cheer on Eric.  He had such a great attitude and high-fived everybody around the track on his final lap.  This is a great event and I think I may do it next year too - Eric may need some convincing :)

For the super-bored: Here are some more pics from the official website Me and EricEricMe, Me, Me, a shot of the ice, and Eric,

Hi Matt! I remember you from this race. Sorry you weren't feeling well but glad that your family was there for your finish (this was one of my races where I had no one at the finish). Thanks for the comment on my blog. Actually, that was a draft post I'd written on a test blog that I should have made private (I often go through several iterations on my race reports). My real blog is: HumbleTriathlete.blogspot.com, if you're interested.

Best of luck on your other races and 101 goals!

Thanks for including me in another of your marathon adventures. I might be taking a break for awhile though. Can't wait to hear about future races!
