On Sunday I went down to the basement to do some laundry and noticed the washer had never run the cycle. I messed with it for a few minutes and decided that I would leave it for the night while I prayed about it. Monday morning came and I started to do laundry again. I had a few loads that needed to be washed for our trip to Florida on Friday. I found the washer still not working. I didn't want to stress Matt out. He's got so much going on with work I hoped I could handle it myself. After calling Sears and a few other repairmen the best quote I got was $130 plus parts. Ouch! I had a good idea that it was the lid switch that was broken and had temporarily fixed it with some putty and a paint opener. After calling Andy (our super handy friend), I found a place that I could buy the part. So, I grabbed my pink hammer and screwdriver, found a few videos on youtube showing how to take a washer apart, and then set to work.
Got the drum off... and resisted the urge to scrub the floor under it. Gross. The new switch... I know it's night and day, right? ;) It took about 20 minutes and saved over $120 dollars.
This is how I feel about my DIY project:
I was just so proud of myself for fixing the washer. I may keep this as a trophy.
And finally...making sure that all my work actually worked.
Success!

I am SOOO impressed! Great job! Looks like something I might try... how did you know it was the switch that was broken? I never quite know :o) Anyway, way to go!
I think of all the things it could have been that was the easiest. I troubleshooted online and everything pointed to that so I went with it.
It was fun to feel so handy! :)

I thought it was amazing that Matt could run so many marathons, but this takes the cake! Nice work! I thought the picture of the washer all taken apart was hilarious!!!! The most amazing thing is that it actually works now - that is awesome!
