Our flight was scheduled to take off at 7am on Friday, July 23rd. The day after the flood. If you live anywhere near Milwaukee you know what I am talking about. Thankfully, our house had no damage. I really think this was a small BIG miracle that God gave us. Maybe because we were leaving the next day or maybe because our house is on the market but there is no doubt in my mind that it was all God. (As most things are). Although our house was fine, getting to California would be a little more difficult that we had thought. It went something like this:
(FYI: This is a long one)
4:00am -Wake up - check online - flight cancelled - shut off alarm go back to sleep.
4:30am - can't sleep - decide to call airline to try to get booked on later flight - sit on hold for 2 hours - fall alseep - don't hear agent answer - call lost.
7:00am - Wake up - call airline again - sit on hold for 1 hour until phone dies.
9:00am - decide it would be faster to just drive to airport and try to book flight there.
10:00am - Wait for 2 hours in line to speak with agent - no flights leaving Milwaukee to San Fran until Tuesday - agent says we could try to fly standby out of Madison Airport.
12:00pm - Drive to Madison - Go into airport to see what our chances are of getting on the flight - not good - check to see if anything out of Milwaukee has opened up - YES! One seat on the 6:30pm flight but by the time we go to book it it's gone. - Give up - start to cry while waiting for Matt to get the car.
2:30pm - Go back to car to wait 4 hours until our possible flight out of Madison leaves - decide to call airline ONE LAST TIME to get on direct flight out of Milwaukee - wait on hold one hour - fall asleep - wake up to agent answering the call.
3:30pm Talk to the BEST customer service rep EVER! - Gets us both on direct flight out of Milwaukee in 3 hours! Confirms and checks us in over the phone to assure that we don't get bumped - Drive back to Milwaukee as fast as possible.
5:30 - Get parked and into airport - flight delayed but we don't care as long as we're on it.
9:00pm - our 6:30 flight finally takes off!
1:00am - Land in San Francisco
2:00am - Check into hotel and finally sleep!
The rest of our trip was A LOT more fun! I love Matt. He is so much fun to be around. He constantly makes me laugh and fall more in love everyday. We did so much and have so many great memories. Thanks sweets for the amazing trip. Thanks for keeping me warm in freezing San Fran, for encouraging to run a 5K all by myself, and for being my best friend. I love you! HAPPY 31st BIRTHDAY to the most amazing man in the world!!!
And our biggest thanks goes to my AMAZING mom who watched the kids for us while we were gone. Love you mom!

Oh man, as I was reading about your terrible experience with the airlines, I thought you were doing that all with kids in tow!! I thought to myself, "I would have been crying waaaay before Gretchen did!" :) So glad you guys got a nice time away by yourselves!
Great video, Gretch!! Looks like you guys had a great time (once you got there)! I can't believe how bundeled you guys were- I thought California was suppposed to be warm?!? :) Glad you guys had a good trip!
We thought California was warm too. Apparently San Fran is around 60-70 degrees year round. And, Christie, Matt and I kept saying "can you imagine if we would have brought the kids?" I think we would have canceled the whole thing. :)
I love your video - the Full House song is perfect:) You do look cold in many of the pictures. I remember when we went and I was all excited to go swimming in the outdoor pool ... needless to say, it never happened:) Glad things went much smoother after your rough beginning!
