I wish I were a craft blogger.

My google reader is packed daily with craft blogs from all over the world. I love to sit and look at their work and make lists on my computer of all the things I would like to do. One of my favorite blogs is an amazingly talented woman who makes beautiful wooden signs (among other things). So after seeing this subway sign at Restoration Hardware a few months ago, I knew that someday I wanted to make my own... especially since I was pretty sure that Matt wasn't about to okay me spending $650 on the real thing.

Matt was kind enough to build the sign for me and did a great job. Unfortunately, the rest was up to me and I was a little surprised at how huge it was. I had no idea what I was getting into.
First thing I did was tape the edges to paint the frame and inside black. I used a paint tester and rolled it on. So much easier than spray paint.

After all the black was painted, I got my handy dandy calculator and figured out how much space I needed for each word then taped it off.

I used a Word doc. to get my letters looking how I wanted and traced them onto the wood. Then I carefully painted the letters on with tiny paintbrushes. After many long nights of painting I was starting to think that $650 is about what I would charge for my sign. :)

The finished project!

Oh... and we used all the roads that Matt and I have lived on since we met with the exception of Fordham and Broadhead (the roads that Matt and I grew up on, respectively).

LOVE IT!!! SO great! You are really talented with the home decor! I often think that things I make are worth lots of money becuase of the time it takes. I don't know how people sell handmade things and make anything off them....
