North Face Endurance Marathon

Josh and I have been great friends since 3rd grade... I'm surprised it took us this long to run a marathon together!  He and Alisha came up and stayed over night because the race was only 15 minutes from our house.

My supportive crew at the Start area.  They were wonderful!

The run was all on trails and the scenery was beautiful.

See?  Josh's view for most of the day was beautiful!

I was happy to run the whole way with Josh.  Only a few hundred ran in the marathon and it got really sparse, really quick.  I don't do lonely.  I need somebody to bother.

This was common along the route.  They even made the flat areas more difficult by having us run shaky board walks for long stretches at a time.  They were actually pretty sturdy - I kept expecting to fall through on every step though.

At an aid station at mile 11.  I love trail marathons because they load up on the snacks at the rest areas.  My favorite of the day was enjoying hot chicken broth and potatoes.  Other options were M&Ms, coffee, cookies, brownies, energy gels, sandwiches, potato chips, crackers, oranges (also a favorite) and bananas.  Next year, I might skip the race and just show up for the aid stations.  Yum.

Finished!  I was so happy to see these 2!

My wonderful wife.  She's always been so supportive during these races.  It's not easy to get around and entertain 3 young kids while waiting for me to finish.

The finish area food was awesome too :)

Afterwards, they had a 1k kids run led by Dean Karnazes.  That's him in the red shirt encouraging Cal along.  Our whole family participated.  Gretchen ran with Hazel and Cal and I tried to keep up with Lilly, who "wanted to win".

He already has a bigger stride than his daddy!

Gretchen got lots of compliments for jogging with baby.  She's an awesome mom!

Here's Lilly running with Snow White.

Crossing the finish line!

Everybody finished!

What an awesome family event.  I think G and Hazel should have received medals too though.

Hazel's first race.  She was this excited the whole time.

The marathoners.  We finished in 5:18 and Josh was strong the whole time.  He did awesome in his first marathon.  Thanks for hanging with me all day, Josh.

Best swag from any race I've ever done.  North Face light-weight tech shirt, arm warmers and a NF bottle.  This along with all the great food made the $75 entree fee seem like a bargain.

20 marathons done!

Josh, Seriously considering the 50k. Next year I'll take vitamins leading up to the race to make sure I don't get sick again. Thanks again for running!
