Monday started out pretty normal. I woke up thinking that it would be just another day of waiting to have a baby. I figured it was still 4 days till my due date and since Lilly was 6 days late. I may still have over a week to wait. So, I started the day just as I would any other. After Matt left for work Lilly and I headed out to Mitchell Park to meet some friends for a play-date. We've been having really beautiful weather so it was great to get out and enjoy it. By the time we got home it was already noon so we had a quick lunch and then watched Sesame Street until nap time. Lilly was pretty worn out so she went right down. Matt was able to come home so I could run to my OB appointment and leave Lilly sleeping. My midwife checked everything and seemed a little surprised that I was not in labor. I was 4+ cm and 80% effaced. She sent me on my way and told me to call her right away if I felt anything. I called Matt to tell him the news and ran by Target for a few things before going home. When I got home Lilly was still sleeping so Matt and I decided we better get some yard work done that we had been putting off. He set out to mow the lawn while I grabbed the baby monitor and started trimming the hedges. By this time all the activity is giving me a few contractions but I've been having them for a while now so I don't think much of it. Lilly wakes up and I bring her outside to ride her bicycle while I finish up with the bushes. By the time we are done it's about 5:30 so I hurry inside to start dinner. As I'm making dinner I'm getting stronger and stronger contractions - not horrible enough to make me stop and tell Matt but enough to make me stop doing what I am doing until it passes. I'm starting to think that this baby is coming but I don't want to get Matt's hopes up so we finish dinner and I start to pack up a few last minute things. By 6pm I ask Matt to start timing my contractions. They are coming about every 7 minutes but only lasting about 30 seconds so I am still feeling unsure if we need to go to the hospital. After about an hour of this we decide we should go. Part of me is thinking that we will get there and I'll stall and be sent home. I make all the necessary phone calls and then Lilly, Matt and I pack up the car and head out. By 7:30pm we are at the hospital and I'm already 6 cm. At 7:45pm we are all in the delivery room watching my contractions and being entertained by Lilly. The next half hour is where I get a little fuzzy. Everything is chaotic as I start feeling the need to push. Everyone is frantically setting up the room. Matt is doing a great job of coaching me through my contractions and reminding me not to tense up. Lilly is being entertained by one of the nurses and this baby is about to be born. As I start to push just as my good friend Melissa arrives to take care of Lilly. After a couple of pushes the baby is born. They hold him up for me to see and I'm shocked when I realize it's a boy. I am still shocked but so excited! I am so in love with my little son and Matt is just thrilled as well. God is so good and we are blessed beyond what we ever hoped for or deserve. We are so happy to welcome our new little one to our family...

Congratulations Gretchen and Matt! Your amazing Gretchen. If someone never had a baby and read your blog they would think labor is like a walk in the park. When did you find time to update your blog? -kseiler
CONGRATULATIONS!! I'm so excited for you guys!! Keep us updated and get some rest!! LOVE you guys!!
I'm so impressed. It took me two months to write my labor story w/ George. I love it how you were so far along & didn't think much of it. And...you were doing yard work. =) Baby boys are wonderful & we cannot wait to meet the little guy & see Lilly again.
