I flew into O'Hare on Friday night after my long national sales meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona. I stayed with Eric and Melissa that night and Eric and I hit the road to Birmingham on Saturday at 5 am. We made it down in an incredible 10 hours and had some time to rest up before the 7am race start the next day. Our hotel was just 3 blocks from the start line so it really made for an easy morning. This was my 5th marathon and Eric's 3rd so we knew what we were getting into. The race went great. For the most part, Eric and I stayed with the 4:30 pace group but eventually went our own ways. Eric had been sick all week and I was having some gastro-intestinal issues (Please, no questions) during the second half of the race. I ended up really suprising myself and coming in at 4:21 which worked out to exactly a 10 minute mile. Eric finished shortly after and I was so proud to see him finish a marathon while he was sick. It was a really enjoyable course. The course support was great and we each got 2 shirts, a travel bag and an awesome finisher's medal. We took some time to eat some lunch and shower and then we hit the road for the long ride home. I dropped Eric off at his car at around 11pm and I made it home to Milwaukee at 1am. What a crazy long weekend!

I'm really glad you and Eric are doing marathons together. Maybe sometimes you could do things that aren't so abusive to your bodies. It's nice that you have each other, especially on the long trips. I'm very proud of you both!
