Wild Card - Memphis Marathon

I took off work on Friday and made the 11 hour drive down to Memphis with my roommate from college, Andrew.  He's on a quest to do a marathon in all 50 states so he was happy to check another off his list.

Here we are a few minutes before the starting gun.

I've never been to a race that had so many porta potties and so few people in line... Loved it!

I think I took this at mile 3... Believe it or not, this was the best of several shots we took.

Running down Beale Street.

A quick clip... FYI, it's really hard to hold the camera, talk and run at the same time.

The best scenery of the day!  I finished in 4 hours and 17 minutes and really enjoyed the race.  It was a beautiful day for a run and it was very well organized.  The race ended at Autozone Park which is a minor league baseball stadium for the Cardinals.  They announce your name and hometown when you come in to the stadium and it made for a very cool finish.  After we finished, we showered in the Memphis Red Bird's locker room and then hit the road to make it home by midnight.  It was really important for me to get back to see Lilly's 3 year old class sing in the Christmas program at church the next morning.

Congrats to Andrew on his 11th state!

It always feels good to put a new medal on the display.  Memphis was a great city to run in.  The course was rolling hills but not too bad at any point.  The best part of the trip was getting to catch up with Andrew.  Hopefully we can find another race to do together soon.

Way to go Matt! A little more than a year ago, you told me that you would probably hit 10 marathons in your lifetime. Who would have thought it would come so soon.

I vaguely remember that, Eric... Isn't that hilarious? I'm really excited about doing #11 with you!
