I know that bumps and bruises are part of being a kid but I could do without. I am leaning toward putting helmets on my kids and not taking them off until they are a little more coordinated..or in Lilly's case... a lot more coordinated. While we were playing outside yesterday she fell of her bike and into a bench and got a huge bump instantly. I scooped her up walked her inside and was about to take her to the ER when Matt decided to be the rational parent. He said that it looked worse than it was and since she was acting fine and already wanting to play she was most likely fine... and she was. I asked her what she needed to make her feel better. Her answer... "Jesus". She explained that she wanted Jesus to come get her and fly her up to heaven. Isn't that so true. When we are hurting we just want Jesus to come take us away from the pain. At least we can take comfort in knowing that he shares our pain. One of my favorite verses says that "the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18).
As I was taking the picture she looked at me with her very sad face and said "pictures are for happy". I explained that I just want to remember every moment I have with her since she is so precious.
I think she'll be okay, though, despite going to church this morning looking like a Klingon. The bump has gone down considerably and doesn't seem to bother her at all. Although, I may continue to treat her like she's made of glass for a few more days.

Ouchy.....it does look bad...and you wouldn't be the first parent to consider helmets...the Poelzer's love bumping their heads!
I opened your blog and immediately said outloud, "Oh, my gosh!!" That is quite the bump there. Very impressive, Lilly :)
WOW!!!! That looks like it hurt ... I can totally understand why you want her wearing a helmet!
