San Francisco Marathon

I'm not sure what I expected out of this race.  Because I knew it would be a difficult course, I went into it with the expectation of treating it as a training run for the Milwaukee Marathon in October.

The start at 6am.  It was mid 50's and foggy.

Easily, one of the most scenic courses I've ever run.  You get to see the entire city from the San Francisco Bay all the way to the Pacific Ocean.  Extremely Beautiful!

Looking out at Alcatraz.

First view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

The bridge was really cool.  It got congested at times but it was a neat experience to run across it.

Proof that I was on the bridge.

A nice long downhill along the Pacific Ocean.

This girl was at mile 19.  Her sign reminded me of Wisconsin.

An incredible experience!  Gretchen ran the 5k and I was so happy to have her waiting for me at the finish.  My race went awesome.  I ran the first half in 2:04 which I was really happy with because of the congestion on the bridge.  I felt good so I pushed it the second half and finished in 3:58:58!  I had hoped to do it in under 4:30 so I was super-psyched to set a new personal best.  The course was very hilly but there was so much to see that it made the time go by quickly.  I highly recommend running San Francisco!

PS - great freebies too.  Really nice shirt, personalized race bib, medal that doubles as a coaster and a nice race bag.
