Wild Card - Detroit Free Press Marathon

I was drawn to do this run because there aren't a lot of races that take place in 2 countries.  The majority of this run is in Detroit (That's in the USA) but for 4 miles, it cuts along the riverfront in Windsor, Canada.

I traveled out with my friend, Andrew.  Here we are at the 7am EST start.

Getting ready to cross the Starting line.

Crossing the Ambassador Bridge into Canada as the sun was rising at mile 3.

I guess giant woodchucks are popular in Canada?

This is the tunnel that goes under the Detroit River.  Here's the border between the 2 countries.  It was weird running through US customs - can't quite explain it, just an odd moment in a marathon!

I kept a nice easy pace and was thrilled to finish in 4:07.  This was a really neat race.  Detroit by itself might not have kept my attention for 4+ hours but the trip into and out of Canada added a lot to the uniqueness to this event.  Crowd support was good in both countries and the volunteers were great!
I've now run a marathon in 9 states - WI (7), IN (2), AL, TN (2), IL (2), MS, PA, CA, and MI.
