Remove Pond

When we moved in, we had this pretty pond and fountain area on the steps outside but because it was dangerously deep for small kids (and because we have another pond and fountain just steps away) we decided to take it out. Plus, we didn't want another area to maintain.  The ironic part is that the previous owners only put this in to sell the house.

I took out the pond insert and fountain and sold it on craigslist last summer.  It took a while to come up with an idea of how to use this area - just a big hole.  When it was built, it was intended to have a hot tub.  I really love that idea, just nowhere near in our budget right now.  The kids wanted a sandbox but neither of us really like the idea of monsters tracking sand all over the house.  Then Gretchen had a great idea - Pea Gravel!

You can play in it like a sandbox but it won't get all over everything and get the toys gross and dirty.  The gravel is very small and round so it's comfortable to play in.  It's also a good use of the space because it's very easy to remove if we ever want to put in a slab to have a hot tub.

The stones are over a foot deep so there's plenty here if anybody ever wants to come over and play.  I know Cal would love to bury somebody.
