Summer Happenings

Lilly has fallen in love with reading. We challenged her to read 100 books this summer and she read them so fast I couldn't keep track. Matt and I have been amazed at how hard English really is to learn and how well she has done. It's really neat to watch and we are so proud of how hard she's worked.

She's also loves writing.

The other day she set up a lemonade stand at the end of the driveway. Actually she was selling homemade aquariums, not lemonade. Sales weren't great seeing as we live on a dead end street on the edge of town.

Calvin has had a great summer. He's grown so much and is constantly making us laugh. I just adore him. ;) He loves being a big brother to Hazel and tells me everyday how excited he is that we are having another baby. He has also been working really hard on learning how to write his letters. I was getting worried because Lilly wrote her name at just over 3 years old and Cal hadn't. Then at about 3 1/2 Calvin wrote Lilly's name. Then it occurred to me that Lilly is a very easy name to write. Since then Cal has gotten pretty good at writing his name. The biggest change in Calvin has been his ability to obey. I was really having a hard time with him in the spring - not listening or crying when he didn't get his way. I've been working on being more consistent with him and we've really seen him improve. He's such a sweetheart.

Our precious little Hazel is turning into a big girl as she prepares to be a big sister. She's standing and walking short distances but prefers to crawl since it's so much faster. After being such a fussy baby she is turning into such a fun little girl. She is so smiley and laughs at almost anything the kids do. She's also started talking and doing things on command - like clapping, folding hands for prayer, and playing peek-a-boo.
