Bunk Bed time! With baby #4 due in January, it's time to consolidate rooms and put Lilly and Cal together. After soccer practice last week, Lilly was kind enough to go get the wood with me :)
Cal was super excited to help. I gave him a 2x4 to hammer nails in and man did that keep him entertained!
Framing out the back side.
I showed Cal how to fill nail holes and cracks. It's so rewarding to have the kids at an age where I can actually get some free labor out of them. :)
Even Hazel got involved. Here she's repeatedly trying to pull this end down on top of us while I'm attempting to assemble it.
Dry-fitting it in the driveway before painting it. These 2 were always looking for opportunities to help.
All done! Just need to paint it and lay in the mattress supports. I'm very happy with the result - especially the part where the whole thing cost under 90 dollars!
I even made sure that Gracie had enough clearance to sleep under the bed. Ever since she was a puppy, she's always slept under Lilly's bed.
There's
a bit of an adjustment with these 2 in the same room but so far, so
good. The first couple of nights that we went to put them to bed, at
least one of them would say, "Oh yeah! We have a bunk bed!" This
opened up so much space in their room (Cal was in a queen!) that now I'm
trying to talk Gretchen into letting me make another set for our room.
Imagine the floorspace we could have!!!
